How to travel to Hermanus

For international visitors.

You cannot directly travel to Hermanus by air as we do not have an airport. (It made way for much needed housing development.) Travel by train is also not possible because in the early days of the development of Hermanus, a link by rail was found to be unacceptable by the then manager of the South African Railway, William Hoy.

The easiest way is by air to Cape Town International airport and from Cape Town to Hermanus by car or bus. There are many airlines with a regular service between Johannesburg international and Cape Town international. Our local South African carrier, SAA, is but one.

You can also travel by Intercape Mainliner bus from Johannesburg International to Cape Town or by train with the "Blue Train". The Blue Train is unique - it is not merely a train but combines the luxury of the world's leading hotels with the charm of train travel. Think of it as an all inclusive luxury rail cruise with an opportunity to view South Africa's spectacular landscapes and visit interesting tourist attractions along the way.

Another way is to rent a car at AVIS Car Rental or Tempest Car Hire in Johannesburg and drive all the way to the Cape. A long drive of about 18 hours but with added bonus of being able to visit many towns and cities along the way - each with its own unique character and style. Tarred road all the way - maximum speed allowed 120 km per hour. (All the main roads between cities and towns in South Africa are tarred roads with a 120 km per hour speed limit. In built up areas the speed limit is 60 km per hour.)
Most of the South African Wildlife resorts and camps can be visited by car. You do not need a 4x4 vehicle except in certain parts of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

From Cape Town to Hermanus.

Various operators who provide a regular shuttle service between Cape Town and Hermanus can be found here.
SPLASH provides a daily passenger transfer service between Hermanus and Cape Town centre, via the airport.

Group bookings are welcome.

Tailor-made tours arranged to suit individuals.

We shuttle people mainly between Cape Town International and Hermanus. The cost of this is R250.00 per person, provided there is more than one person in the vehicle. Should we have to send a car for one person, there is a minimum cost of R500.00.
Secondly, there are transfers between Hermanus and Cape Town itself. This costs R350.00 per person, or R700.00 when only one passenger.
Transfers between Worcester and Hermanus cost the same as for the airport.

We also do trips to Gansbaai, here prices depend on the amount of pax. and the time that the vehicle has to wait. Large group bookings can be accommodated, as we have a Sprinter, as well as a sedan.
We now also have a Toyota Quantum and a estate car.
